In 2015, representatives from 196 countries signed the Paris Agreement at the Paris Climate Conference. It is our responsibility to convert those Paris climate pledges into action and follow through on those promises.

As the sun sets on the horizon, we prepared for the simple yet monumental task that was to take place at 8:30 pm local time in 188 countries and territories worldwide. More than 18,000 iconic landmarks across the globe went dark to mark Earth Hour and fulfill our promise to earth. Earth Hour Taiwan initiator O’right called on distributors from 30 countries, celebrities, enterprises, government units and non-governmental organizations to take action against climate change.

This year marks our ninth time initiating Earth Hour Taiwan. Every year, we connect the power of our green partners around the world to shine a light on climate action. Thousands of salon hairdressers from over 30 countries stepped up to climate change, including Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Belarus, Turkey, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Belgium, Slovenia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. Every individual counts and it is up to us to drive environmental awareness.

O’right distributors led by example, notably with Poland’s Palace of Culture and Science, Russia’s Red Square and Portugal’s National Association of Pharmacies showing their support. Our green partners from Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria and Romania also called on shopping centers to shine a light on climate action. The O’right Concept Store located in Riyadh of Saudi Arabia went dark and lighted up candles to as a sign of hope. We should all use our power to make an impact on more individuals, enterprises and governments worldwide.

Prayer for our planet

Earth Hour brings together people who share one common goal: an eco-friendly future. As global citizens, whether as individuals, enterprises or governments, no matter who you are or where you are, we should all think of ways to bring our commitment to climate action beyond Earth Hour to protect and secure the future of our planet.

Temporary darkness for a brighter future

Earth Hour may be over, but the plus sign on the Earth Hour logo signifies the campaign’s evolution beyond the hour. We encourage people to take your commitment to the cause beyond the 60-minute event by living a low carbon, sustainable lifestyle. As Tanya Steele, Chief Executive of WWF UK, stated, “We are the first generation to know we are destroying our planet and the last that can do anything about it.” It is our responsibility not just as individuals or enterprises, but as earth citizens.
