Earth Hour, the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, took place on 26 March at 8:30 pm, offering a message of solidarity for people and the planet. During a virtual ceremony hosted by Ecovia Intelligence on 26 October, the winners of the Sustainable Beauty Awards 2021 were revealed, with O’right Sorghum Radiance Banana Fiber Sheet Mask taking home the New Sustainable Product Award.
“We strive to help farmers earn more!” As a real doer, Ko spent 15 years working with local farmers in Taiwan to increase the use of renewable agricultural resources. O’right turned sorghum into a hand cream, banana by-products into sheet mask fabric and coffee grounds into shampoo.
Jarkko Havas, Lead of Insights and Analysis of the EllenMacArthur Foundation, thanked Ko for “going above and beyond for net zero.” As the host said jokingly at the end of the panel session, “Now I can have guilt-free hair care!”
The Good Design Award, one of the four greatest design awards in the world, aims at enriching lives and society through design. This year, the best designs out of 5,835 entries were selected by over 70 professionals serving as jury members. The Good Design Award winners were announced on 20 October, with O’right winning the Best 100 and Gold Award. The zero carbon brand from Taiwan also become one of the only five entries worldwide to be named a finalist for the Good Design Grand Award as “the best sustainability-oriented organizational adaptation to climate change.”
