The UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) took place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Steven Ko, CEO of the world’s first zero carbon beauty company O’right, was among the speakers who attended the World Climate Summit – The Investment COP 2022, the leading forum for business and investment-driven solutions to climate change that is recognized as the most important official COP side event. On 14 November, designated as Water Day at COP27, Ko initiated his 3-minute Shower Action, urging everyone to take real action to accelerate decarbonization.
With heatwaves hitting the globe, an iced Espresso Romano with a slice of lemon is the ultimate cooling treat for coffee lovers. Seeing gray hair sprout out of your scalp? Are you a victim of premature graying, and can’t figure out why? Graying hair can affect your appearance, self-confidence and self-esteem, so many people opt to get their hair dyed. But conventional hair dyes are packed with harmful chemicals that could hurt your scalp and your health in the long run.
The campaign for World Environment Day 2022 #OnlyOneEarth calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet. Every minute, the equivalent of one garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our ocean. Plastic pollution is our global problem. Approximately 7 billion of the 9.2 billion tonnes of plastic produced from 1950-2017 became plastic waste, ending up in landfills or dumped, according to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). In Taiwan, only mono-material plastic can be circulated back into the recycling system. The refill packs or flexible packaging commonly found in stores are generally made from mixed materials (i.e., a combination of plastic materials), and some even contain non-recyclable metal films, posing a serious circularity challenge.
The term ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) was first coined in 2005, but Taiwanese-based beauty brand O’right began implementing ESG and focusing on these issues since embarking on its green journey in 2002. Formerly known as the Global Views Monthly (GVM) CSR Award, the CSR-ESG Award fosters the transition to sustainability and incorporates environmental concerns into risk assessment, demonstrating that businesses are doing more than just pursuing profits; companies are taking real action and being socially and environmentally accountable to their business, stakeholders and the society.

Earth Hour, the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, took place on 26 March at 8:30 pm, offering a message of solidarity for people and the planet. This year’s Earth Hour Taiwan was held at Hualien’s Gangtian Temple, which included spectacular performances from Taiwanese indigenous tribes and Electric-Techno Neon Gods (pinyin: Sāntàizi) that were live streamed for the world to see. As a partner of WWF’s Earth Hour, O’right has been initiating Earth Hour Taiwan for 12 years, empowering, inspiring and mobilizing the six heads of governments, hundreds of celebrities, thousands of businesses, green salons and individuals to pledge for a greener, healthier future for our shared home.
Global warming has reached 1.24°C above pre-industrial levels, pushing us perilously closer to the internationally agreed threshold of 1.5°C according to IPCC. The planet and its people are at imminent risk of hitting that limit in the near term.

Jarkko Havas, Lead of Insights and Analysis of the EllenMacArthur Foundation, thanked Ko for “going above and beyond for net zero.” As the host said jokingly at the end of the panel session, “Now I can have guilt-free hair care!”
