If the shampoo you’re using needs a lot of water to be […]

If the shampoo you’re using needs a lot of water to be rinsed or takes a long time to blow dry, then you should be aware that that shampoo is not a low carbon product. The carbon dioxide produced by consumers accounts for over 90% of the total carbon footprint of a product. Carbon footprint inventory is the only way to see which phase generates the most emissions and to come up with an effective solution to minimize its carbon footprint. This is the only way true sustainability can exist. A pioneer in sustainability, O’right has achieved carbon neutrality for all of our products. Every consumer who buys a product of O’right is making a zero-carbon commitment to the world.

After 2 extra days of negotiations, the annual UN climate conference COP25 in Madrid finally concluded on the 15th of December, becoming the longest on record. This year’s COP didn’t just get off to a difficult start, but also ended on a disappointing note. Just weeks before the launch, Chile pulled out of hosting this year’s global climate conference, with Spain stepping up to take over, saving the day. Unfortunately, despite over 2 weeks of negotiations, it was not enough to find common ground, resulting in widespread disappointment that no overall consensus was reached and little was achieved. Delegates failed to agree on rules under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which addresses how countries can create a global market mechanism for trading carbon. Let’s just say that it hasn’t been a smooth ride.

So, why does Taiwan, a country that not a member of the UNFCCC, feel the need to attend this annual global climate summit? According to the 2020 Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI), 31 countries recorded decreasing emissions. Taiwan, unfortunately, ranked in the bottom 5, indicating that our country is still far behind when it comes to taking ambitious action on climate protection.

When Taiwan delegate, Steven Ko, Chairman of O’right, stood up onto the stage in front of thousands of delegates from over 200 countries to give an inspiring speech, people began talking:

“Where did COP25 find a company like this?”

“This company is achieving climate goals we’re still negotiating over.”

“Such an inspiring story!”

“As a Taiwanese citizen myself, I am so proud to be present to witness Taiwan shine!”

……

Under the title Closing the Circularity Gap, The Power of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Collaboration, Ko shared O’right’s journey on measuring carbon footprint and carbon-negative product strategies; he even went on to urge businesses to do things the O’right way, including measuring greenhouse gas emissions related to products, reducing carbon emissions for every product and achieving carbon neutrality for all products and in business operations. “Everything that we do and have done at O’right is not as difficult as it seems. As long as you put your heart into it, believe that you can do it,” Ko said firmly.

The Environmental Protection Administration of Taiwan recently announced a series of environmental education events for 2020, which they dubbed the “Year of Sustainability,” with the aim to raise environmental awareness. As COP25 wrapped up, the words of inspiration, passion and determination will also cool down. The end is just the beginning; sustainability is a journey, not a destination. As global citizens, we are all in this together. Are you ready to join us on our zero-carbon mission this year?

This September was a busy month for environmental prote […]

This September was a busy month for environmental protection. In the face of the worsening climate crisis, International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, International Coastal Cleanup, Clean Up the World Weekend, United Nations Climate Action Summit and Fridays for Future play a bigger role than ever in protecting the environment and demanding action.

The IPCC warns that global warming is likely to reach 1.5°C by 2030. Meanwhile, as earth’s temperature continues to rise, the oceans are slowly drowning in plastic, sea levels are rising and ocean acidification is increasing, ultimately putting marine ecosystems and coastal communities at risk. In short, the oceans play a vital role in the global climate system. Changes to the climate, a result of increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, lead to changes in the oceans, which is why, as global citizens, it is our responsibility to do everything in our power to bring our planet back to its prime–clean and beautiful.

Clean Beach, Beautiful Earth

Our beautiful oceans are drowning in plastic. Soon the sun will not be able to reflect from the sea waters because it will be covered in trash…Did you know that the waste you carelessly throw away ends up in the ocean? Every year, an estimated 8 million tons of plastic enters our ocean, which is why many nations worldwide are taking action to curb plastic pollution. The G20 summit set a goal of reducing marine plastic leakage to zero by 2050. Meanwhile 170 countries pledged to reduce single-use plastic by 2030 at the UNEA. With global efforts to combat climate change building momentum, we ask ourselves: what can we do, as global citizens, to save our one and only beautiful planet?

Beautiful beaches are turning into a trash island. It’s time to start thinking about how we can help to keep the earth clean.

It’s hard to imagine a world where oceans are no longer clear and grass no longer grows. What will the world look like when our beautiful beaches have turned into a trash island? It’s a terrifying sight to behold. To be honest, there is a lot we can do to stop this from becoming a reality—by reducing unnecessary plastic at the source and addressing the root cause of pollution. We can pick up litter we come across on the street, think before throwing away trash carelessly, use reusable water bottles instead of single-use plastic ones or find creative ways to repurpose waste. These all may seem like pointless exercise, but they are actually powerful tools in the battle to fight the plastic pollution problem.

Preserving Earth’s Beauty through Sustainability

More than one third of the plastic produced worldwide affects our environment. If the world stops producing or using single-use plastic, it can significantly reduce plastic pollution and the possibility of unwanted waste drifting into the ocean. O’right substitutes traditional plastic packaging with sustainable alternatives—100% renewable plastic made from discarded milk bottles and food containers, which are recycled, sorted, crushed and washed first before entering the recovery process. It’s not just our bottles; even our shampoo and body wash bottle pumps are made from traceable renewable plastic materials.

Pick up litter and restore the ocean’s natural beauty

Living a plastic-free life is not as difficult as we think. Easy changes to how we eat, drink and live can and will make a big difference. We eat with reusable tableware and drink out of reusable bottles and straws. We do our part. Our choice matters, more than we think.

The climate fight is not an easy challenge. There have been and will be obstacles that hinder climate change. As such, even in these difficult times for climate action, as long as we continue to stand up and speak out, we can make a bigger difference beyond our imagination. Our efforts to doing good and never giving up on our commitment have successfully raised awareness on marine conservation and encouraged widespread action.

Love is a positive force for change

The International Coastal Cleanup started over 30 years ago, with just 2 individuals and their idea to bring people together with the common goal of removing trash from the beaches, and has since then turned into a global movement. “Change doesn’t happen overnight – it’s molded by people who don’t give up,” as quoted by New York Times bestselling author Mary E. Pearson. Climate change is accelerating faster than we thought; it has come to the point where it doesn’t matter how much trash we pick up or how fast we can remove all the litter from the beaches. There’s no time left to think and to waste. We have to speed up our pace and harness the power of people, companies and the government to protect the earth. Because love is not simply a positive force for change; it’s also the reason that motivates us to do something about the thing that is threatening our one and only home.

Staying true to their core values – Hiin Studio

Each year hundreds of volunteers and organizations such as the Environmental Protection Administration and Greenpeace take part in coastal cleanups across Taiwan. Founded in 2017, Hiin Studio is an organization in Taiwan dedicated to solving the problem of marine pollution and marine waste disposal as well as marine education. Hiin Studio believes that as long as you put your heart into it, you can change the way people interact with the ocean. They recently held 23 coastal cleanups in 50 days; despite cleaning up the beach once every 2 days, the next time they arrived at the same spot, it is covered in litter again. “When we first took on this mission, we knew it would be a long and challenging journey. It doesn’t matter, because as long as our efforts make a difference, albeit small, it’ll be worth it in the end,” Hiin Studio CEO Kuo Fu said.

A pre-coastal cleanup event to explain the purpose of cleaning up the beaches and ways to live more sustainably (source: Hiin Studio)

Hiin Studio holds environmental educational courses with the aim of changing people’s lifestyles because numbers talk. According to the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), the average useful life of a plastic bag is 12 minutes before it is discarded, either for disposal at landfill or as litter, much shorter than the amount of time required for a renewable product to be produced. “Sorting and recycling waste is a solution; but we really should start with reducing the use of pointless plastics to truly solve the problem,” Kuo Fu points out. If every industry is willing to lead change within themselves and reduce the use of single-use plastic, perhaps our lives can go back to the way it was before – less convenient, but better.

Cleaning up the beaches is the last step to dealing with marine pollution. The results are momentary, but reducing plastics is a lifelong commitment (source: Hiin Studio)

Do the right thing: Save the oceans

The consequences of climate change are a wakeup call on ocean pollution. A new report from the UN Environment Program and World Resources Institute (WRI) found that 127 countries of the countries they surveyed have adopted some form of legislation to regulate plastic bags as of July 2018. Like the Native American saying: “We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children,” it is our responsibility as earth’s citizens to protect our planet. Every human on earth, no matter who we are, an individual or an organization, we have the choice to choose what’s best for the environment. Don’t let convenience and cheap prices of the throwaway culture control your life. Plastic may be a lifesaver when it comes to making life more convenient, but is it really worth it? The earth we “borrowed” deserves to be treated with respect, and our children and their children deserve to run along the beach barefoot without worrying about any plastic debris.

Humans produce huge amounts of garbage every day; if we keep going at this rate, our children will be running on beaches filled with plastic debris.

“My teacher says there’s too much garbage in the sea and many sea turtles and fish are sick. Is that true?”

Hopefully, when our children ask us this question one day, we will be able to answer that question with confidence and provide a solution.

As someone who borrowed earth’s resources, how would you choose to answer that question?

On the 15th of March 2019, hundreds of thousands of stu […]

On the 15th of March 2019, hundreds of thousands of students in over 100 countries walked out of their classrooms to demand action on climate change with Fridays for Future school strikes. Everywhere across the globe, we are striking for climate, striking for our future.

The future is in our hands

The movement that inspired the strikes, Fridays for Future was founded by Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg after she sat in front of the Swedish parliament in August 2018 to call our world leaders on their lack of action on the climate crisis. Why study for a future, when there may not be one?

Fridays for Future is a youth strike that takes place every Friday to safeguard the future of children.

In just a year, what was once a lone climate strike has now become a global viral phenomenon. Students all over the world are swinging into action with countless demonstrations against climate change taking place every Friday.

“My name is Greta Thunberg. I am 16 years old. I come from Sweden. And I speak on behalf of future generations,” the young climate activist said in a powerful speech given to a room packed with UK members of parliament. “I know many of you don’t want to listen to us – you say we are just children.” According to the report issued by IPCC, the planet will reach the threshold of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by as early as 2030, meaning that the planet has only 10 years to stem catastrophic climate change. For many children, the year 2030 is just the beginning of a great life ahead of them. But as Greta points out, she is not so sure it will be that great for their generation. What kind of future awaits them in 2030? What will the world be like? For children, they have a lot of goals and dreams they want and hope to achieve by 2030, but is that even possible?

Think of ways with children to fight for our future

What kind of future do we want for our children?

What should we leave for our children? Is it wealth? Or knowledge?

No, the greatest and most valuable gift we can give them is a better future, a better world. First, they have to learn to love and protect our home – planet earth. We are all passers-by, guests in the world and the best we can do is to give the rest of our generations who will continue to live on this earth a greener tomorrow.

We are all in this together

We need to safeguard the future together and spread green seeds in hopes of making an impact on more people.

With this in mind, we joined forces with Taiwan Youth Climate Coalition (TWYCC) and headed for Jiaxing Elementary School located in a remote area in Hsinchu on the 6th of March,. Almost 98% of the 20 students the school accommodates are Tayal people, a Taiwanese indigenous group who are naturally amazing singers. We played games with the young students that showed them the importance of protecting our natural environment as well as the impacts of climate change and the things we can do in our daily life to curtail it.

Promising our children a greener future

We believe that like us, you want to give your children a beautiful planet to live on. A planet with changing seasons, breathtaking sunsets and sunrises, sunny and rainy days and beautiful natural landscapes surrounded by the vast ocean, forests and life. The future belongs to the young generations and a sustainable future is in our hands.

In December 2018, O’right and Taiwan Youth Climate Coal […]

In December 2018, O’right and Taiwan Youth Climate Coalition (TWYCC), our partner for this year’s Earth Hour, joined thousands in the march for the climate on the streets of Katowice to call on world leaders at COP24 to adopt climate action plans for the planet we call home.

“Visions for a greener tomorrow” encapsulates our commitment to sustainability. Earth Hour is part of our mission. From uniting companies and green partners, to connecting to people with lifestyle brands and everyday platforms, this year’s Earth Hour aims to reach more people with its impact to raise public awareness on why nature matters. It is our responsibility to change our ways and save the environment, and changing ourselves begins with changing our environment. We all live on the same planet, the only planet we call home, which is why we should work together as a team to make this happen.

Connecting to earth and igniting hope

Earth Hour is a global initiative celebrated on the last Saturday of March every year from 8:30 to 9:30 pm local time. It has now grown to become the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, with individuals, businesses and cities in 188 countries and territories worldwide joining and up to 18,000 landmarks switching off their lights in solidarity to speak up for nature and inspire urgent action for the environment. Our ninth year serving as the initiator of Earth Hour Taiwan, we have united government units, celebrities, enterprises, youth groups, salon hairdressers and international distributors to protect the earth. This year, international distributors from Switzerland, Italy, Belarus, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, China, Russia, Hong Kong, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania, Finland, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey showed the same commitment to securing a healthy, thriving and living planet for all.

Earth Hour Taiwan initiator O’right connects the power of government units, celebrities, enterprises and youth groups to speak up for nature.

World unites to put spotlight on nature on 30 March

We celebrate our ninth year of initiating the global environmental movement. On 30 March, Earth Hour kicked off at the Taipei City Government’s East Gate Square. During the hour, Taipei 101, Xinyi District, Office of the President of Taiwan and Taipei Arena plunged into darkness and an award-winning indigenous children’s choir gave a touching performance, which not only shines a light on climate action but also promotes the need of environmental education at an early age. We are participating in creating a new future that will change the world we live in, not just for our generation but for our children and their children.

Amid the darkness, we felt a light of hope. During the hour, Earth Hour 2019 helped reduced electricity consumption by 110,000 kWh and carbon emissions by 61,000 kg, which is the equivalent of 6.3 Taipei 101 fireworks and the planting 5,000 trees.

Indigenous children’s choir casts through the darkness to shine a light on climate change.

Connecting to people through everyday life

We should go beyond Earth Hour and commit to practicing a low-carbon lifestyle and reduce the use of earth’s resources. For Earth Hour 2019, we teamed up with Taipei Metro, decorating the interiors of the cars with eye-catching 3D artworks mimicking disappearing glaciers to spark global warming awareness and its impact on arctic wildlife. Revamping metro cars, an everyday means of commuting, helps open the public eye to the severity of the problems facing us. Earth Hour brings temporary darkness to many cities and iconic landmarks, but is a moment for us to truly reflect on the ways we can go beyond the hour to tackle climate change and protect our brilliant planet.

Till 30 May, passengers and commuters traveling between Tamsui and Xiangshan stations will have the chance to take a ride on the Earth Hour metro car.

Taipei Metro wasn’t the only one that joined. More than two hundred enterprises including Eslite Spectrum, Cathay Holdings, LDC Hotels and StyleMap also took action to stop global warming from making more damage to protect our home.

Going beyond the hour

By switching off the lights, we are joining millions for the largest global environmental movement. But it doesn’t end there. It is more than just a symbolic lights-out event. There are many ways we can get in on the action. We can commit to everyday action for the planet. The Earth Hour “60+” logo reflects the call to go beyond the 60 minutes. Every hour, every day should be Earth Hour if we want to leave a greener, cleaner environment for future generations.

In 2015, representatives from 196 countries signed the Paris Agreement at the Paris Climate Conference. It is our responsibility to convert those Paris climate pledges into action and follow through on those promises.

As the sun sets on the horizon, we prepared for the simple yet monumental task that was to take place at 8:30 pm local time in 188 countries and territories worldwide. More than 18,000 iconic landmarks across the globe went dark to mark Earth Hour and fulfill our promise to earth. Earth Hour Taiwan initiator O’right called on distributors from 30 countries, celebrities, enterprises, government units and non-governmental organizations to take action against climate change.

This year marks our ninth time initiating Earth Hour Taiwan. Every year, we connect the power of our green partners around the world to shine a light on climate action. Thousands of salon hairdressers from over 30 countries stepped up to climate change, including Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Belarus, Turkey, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Belgium, Slovenia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. Every individual counts and it is up to us to drive environmental awareness.

The most sustainable nation in the world Switzerland also showed their support for Earth Hour

As skylines went dark for Earth Hour, people connected to the planet for Earth Hour. O’right distributors led by example, notably with Poland’s Palace of Culture and Science, Russia’s Red Square and Portugal’s National Association of Pharmacies showing their support. Our green partners from Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria and Romania also called on shopping centers to shine a light on climate action. The O’right Concept Store located in Riyadh of Saudi Arabia went dark and lighted up candles to as a sign of hope. We should all use our power to make an impact on more individuals, enterprises and governments worldwide.

Prayer for our planet

Earth Hour brings together people who share one common goal: an eco-friendly future. As global citizens, whether as individuals, enterprises or governments, no matter who you are or where you are, we should all think of ways to bring our commitment to climate action beyond Earth Hour to protect and secure the future of our planet.

Temporary darkness for a brighter future

Earth Hour may be over, but the plus sign on the Earth Hour logo signifies the campaign’s evolution beyond the hour. We encourage people to take your commitment to the cause beyond the 60-minute event by living a low carbon, sustainable lifestyle. As Tanya Steele, Chief Executive of WWF UK, stated, “We are the first generation to know we are destroying our planet and the last that can do anything about it.” It is our responsibility not just as individuals or enterprises, but as earth citizens.

Every March, salon owners in China gather at Wuxi of Jiangsu province, a famous historical and cultural city of China located nearby Lake Tai (or Lake Taihu), to promote sustainability for a vision for a greener tomorrow.

Changes in temperature are affecting glaciers and wildlife population in terrifying ways. As a global citizen, we should take it upon ourselves to drive awareness of this global issue that is threatening our earth. This year’s Earth Hour event was held in five cities, Wuxi, Shenyang, Chengdu, Changsha and Guiyang.

Blending art and sustainability

At the beginning of March, we held our first Earth Hour kick-off meeting in Shenyang. A blend of art and sustainability, the charity soiree saw the attendance of the attachée culturelle of the Consulat général de France à Shenyang Nadège Le Lan and O’right Chairman Steven Ko, who urged action on climate change.

At the Ailleurs Art Museum uniquely designed with brick tiles, children made fun costumes and accessories out of recycled cardboard boxes under the guidance of French artist Alexandre to foster a concern for the environment and sustainable habits at an early age. A long-time environmental advocate for sustainability, we displayed our shampoo bottles made from 100% spent coffee grounds to demonstrate our core values of Natural, Pure and Eco-friendly.

<img class="size-large wp-image-6532" src="https://www.oright.inc/blog/en/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/沈阳3-1030x468.jpeg" alt="Ailleurs Art Museum artist Alexandre and children transform recycled cardboard boxes into fun costumes to foster a concern for the environment and sustainable habits at an early age.
Over five hundred salon hairdressers lead by the General Manager Chen Li-jiu attended the event to support the world’s largest environmental movement. The attendees leave their fingerprints on the Tree of Life to mark their attendance and symbolize sustainability. Malaysian hairdresser June Ng was invited to display his creative works of art made from used O’right shampoo and body wash bottles.

Local department stores show they care

Raffles City, a shopping mall in the heart of Shanghai, had cute poster boards of polar bears and penguins for shoppers to take photos with while helping to raise more awareness on climate change. At 8:30 pm on 30 March, they turned off non-essential lights to light up the future.

<img class="size-large wp-image-6536" src="https://www.oright.inc/blog/en/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/IMG_3380-小檔-1030x772.jpg" alt="Earth Hour poster boards of polar bears and penguins placed in Raffles City to raise public awareness on climate change.
Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative. We break through language barriers to unite the world and connect to earth while integrating low carbon practices. Our planet needs us; join hands to protect the earth and make it beautiful again.

Since global warming doesn’t seem to be going away anyt […]

Since global warming doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, individuals, businesses and communities worldwide are aiming to build a carbon-neutral world. Climate change is not just an environmental issue, but also an important challenge that mankind, living things and natural ecosystems must face. Nations across the globe are well aware of the dangers of carbon emissions on our environment, and are seeking ways to minimize environmental impacts.

The global rise in carbon emissions is worrying, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon. In 2018, UNEP reported that global carbon dioxide emissions reached a record high. WMO (World Meteorological Organization) Chief Scientist and Research Director Pavel Kabat addressed the United Nations Security Council during a session on climate-related disasters and their impacts. “Climate change has a multiple of security impacts, such as rolling back the gains in nutrition and access to food and increasing the potential for water conflict,” he said. The UN stressed that millions of people are already suffering from the effects of climate change and the risks associated with these disasters are not going away, urging people to scale up action against global warming.

Sustainability and carbon neutrality are global goals. It’s not just the United Nations that’s concerned about global warming, but the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is also following close at the heels with its latest report that estimates the world’s temperature will likely increase 1.5°C in the future. What’s more, the European Union aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Sustainability shouldn’t just be a slogan. It is an action that should be taken to protect our beautiful home.

Moving towards sustainability

Carbon neutrality plays a key part on the road to sustainability and industries worldwide are working to going carbon neutral. By balancing carbon emissions with carbon removal, we can achieve net zero carbon. Since embarking on our green journey in 2006, we incorporated GHG emissions inventories in 2009, obtained the world’s first carbon neutral validation for shampoos and signed a voluntary agreement to cut packaging, thereby becoming one of the first companies in Taiwan to launch the pledge.

On our road to sustainability, our zero-carbon green practices have never wavered in our products, raw materials, manufacturing, logistics, certificates and accolades and CSR activities. In 2018, we brought sustainability to the next level by successfully joining RE100 along with Facebook and Google and vowed to become the first company in Taiwan to make a commitment to 100% renewable electricity by 2025. The same year, we were validated by SGS for carbon neutrality as a corporate organization and for nine of our products and introduced the world’s first renewable plastic pump. Over the years, we have achieved many milestones, including setting green standards to use naturally-sourced ingredients, developing the Caffeine Botanical Scalp Revitalizer made from coffee husks and creating the innovative Tree in the Bottle Shampoo with coffee grounds, demonstrating our longstanding commitment and efforts to achieve our goal of a zero carbon, sustainable future.

Sustainability in everyday life

Our sustainable practices and carbon reduction achievements have been recognized by a handful of international sustainability awards such as the Green World Awards and Sustainable Beauty Awards. That’s not all; we adopt a low-carbon standard for our product raw materials, delivery and energy-saving facilities, rely on solar and wind power and follow a green logistics system. Lush greenery on the premises of O’right Green Headquarters not only enhances the natural environment but also mitigates climate change. In addition, 100% of rainwater is recycled and reclaimed for daily water consumption, air-conditioning, irrigation, and other purposes. At the Green Headquarters, not one drop of precious water is wasted and carbon dioxide emissions are reduced to a minimum.

To make earth better, we remain steadfastly committed to achieving zero carbon on our road towards sustainability. Every year we organize three annual CSR events, Earth Hour, Coastal Cleanup and Plant a Tree. What’s more, we have reduced 1,427,120kg of carbon emissions since 2012, which is equal to planting 129,738 20-year-old trees. We turn green thinking into limitless possibilities and make a green impact in order to move closer towards a sustainable lifestyle and a better home for future generations.

Switch off the Lights to Brighten the Future In Decembe […]

Switch off the Lights to Brighten the Future

In December 2018, the UN climate summit (COP24) kicked off in Katowice, Poland, where world leaders and negotiators from almost 200 nations gathered to negotiate how to tackle climate change and to work on the implementation plan for the Paris Agreement. Climate change is a problem that is happening here and now, not in the future. Its impact is felt across ecosystems, which are being destroyed at an alarming rate. Climate change is the most important issue humanity faces and the UN urges nations to tackle the urgent threats of global warming. What can we do as global citizens? We can change our lifestyles.

COP24 taking place at Katowice, Poland (Source: UNFCCC Flickr)

We are not alone against climate change

Climate change is a global concern. Having hosted Earth Hour Taiwan for 9 years, O’right is no stranger to sustainability. O’right Poland distributors as well as this year’s Earth Hour partner Taiwan Youth Climate Coalition (TWYCC) travelled 800km to join thousands in the march for the climate on the streets of Katowice. “When we go together, we can go very far,” TWYCC said, while expressing their goal of promoting the creativity of the march to Taiwan to inspire more people to walk the journey together. We are not alone on this journey against climate change. As the European Union (EU) plans to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, we are following closely on the heels of environmental concerns in hopes of transitioning to a zero carbon economy.

O’right Poland distributors join the march for the climate to protect earth.

2019 Earth Hour Taiwan partner TWYCC

Now is not too late to fight

COP24 climate talk was not the end of the matter; it is the beginning of great change. Since 2011, O’right has partnered with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to make Earth Hour Taiwan possible every year by bringing together industry leaders and celebrities and has succeeded in reducing 340,730kg of carbon emissions, equal to planting 30,976 20-year-old trees on earth. Earth Hour is a global initiative that unites people across the globe to raise awareness of the fight against climate change and to protect the earth. It has grown to become the world’s largest movement for the environment, with 188 countries and territories worldwide joining and 18,000 landmarks switching off their lights to take a stand to change climate change.

“We’ve started our new campaign to raise the profile of the importance of biodiversity and nature, building a compelling narrative on why nature is fundamental to our well-being, health, happiness, society and economy. It is about connecting to earth and it is about learning to live in harmony with nature. Perhaps most of all, it’s about securing the future of earth’s amazing diversity of life and our own. We can secure a healthy planet for all if we join forces and voices,” Marco Lambertini, Director General of WWF International asserted.

The Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 ºC by the I […]

The Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 ºC by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that the world’s temperatures are likely to raise 0.5ºC by 2030-2052 if global warming continues at its current pace. Furthermore, the report also states that a temperature increase would exasperate extreme weather, declining Arctic sea ice, rising sea levels and cause coral mortality to reach 70%. The 2018 Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences was awarded to 2 scholars for their work on how changes in temperature interact with economic activity. Climate change has become a crisis that cannot be ignored by individuals, organizations, corporations or nations. It is a problem we must all face and fight as one.

As the impact of climate change worsens, we can’t rely on individuals to fix the problem anymore. It’s time for corporations to take a stand on climate action and make a difference. With the collective power of corporations and communities, we can accelerate climate action and take great strides towards a sustainable future.

Earth’s temperature to rise 0.5 ºC if we don’t do something

Desperate times call for desperate measures…and these are desperate times. The global goal is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. But people are still turning a blind eye to the staggering amount of new plastic piling up and the environmental and health impacts of improper waste treatment such as open burning and landfills.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) calls for a European Sustainability Pact ahead of EU elections for a safer, more competitive and responsible EU. The European Parliament also voted to enact a ban on single-use plastics by 2021 and many countries have followed their footsteps by implementing measures to reduce plastic use and stopping trash from polluting the oceans.

Revive old plastic and restore nature

According to the UN, humanity as a whole has produced 9 billion tons of plastic, but only 9% of it has been recycled. Also, 50% of the plastic we use is single-use. Even more alarming is BBC reported in 2017 that the amount of plastic produced is as heavy as 25,000 Empire State Buildings or a billion elephants.

Plastic bottles, bags, straws and disposable toiletries are just a few of the many things that are thrown away without any thought on a daily basis. Over time, the world is faced with a massive pile-up of plastic trash. It’s no wonder Mother Nature has had enough and is fighting back with catastrophic results. Plastic is not going anywhere; and to deal with the plastic problem, the solution is simple: reduce plastic in everyday life. It’s time to make a change and to make a real difference in the world’s fight against plastic.

Innovating our way towards sustainability

O’right is on the right track towards a plastic-free future as the first beauty brand in the world to ensure traceability of recycled resources. In 2011, we created the world’s first Carbon Neutral shampoo, using packaging materials that are recyclable, renewable and non-toxic. In 2018, we went on to introduce the 100% renewable plastic shampoo bottle and pump to reduce the use of new plastic and give plastic waste new meaning while lowering carbon emissions. For years, we have worked towards lessening environmental impact and protecting our planet for a greener tomorrow.
